ARTIST STATEMENT:
I describe my work as a juxtaposition of color, movement and pattern creating a composition that is vibrant and thought provoking.
It is my belief that a true work of art is not merely a visual statement but should stimulate our senses, quicken our emotions, and allow the beholder to grasp the hidden beauty that lies within our midst. My mission as an artist is not to recreate nature, but rather to enhance the perception and magnificence of our realm. And to that end, I employ a variety of mediums to capture the essence of the subject matter. My work endeavors to bridge the gap between fantasy and reality and to portray that window which connects mankind to our environment and indeed to our universe. My paintings portray not what I see but what I dream to be real. In the words of the eminent artist Vincent Van Gogh "I dream my painting and paint my dream" In that, I find my greatest fulfillment.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
ARTIST STATEMENT I describe the style of my paintings as “Representational Abstract”, suggesting organic shapes, colors and textures in the real world, yet also something unquantifiable and emotional. There’s something familiar, yet not. The eyes beg to linger. Each piece, wrought in encaustic hot wax medium, an unpredictable translucent molten medium, captures a bit of the bend of a river, or a certain section of sky, or a flower halfway to seed, and possibly something of the artist or viewer as well. Occasionally, a simple discarded item or a found object add texture, depth and interest.
“I frequently begin a painting with no defined direction where it will take me in its creation.” I begin with nature in mind, then expand perception, flowing with luminous process, surrendering to wherever brush, heat, wax and pigment take me.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
Sherrie's background has embraced many different forms. At the beginning, fashion design allowed her to create patterns and seek out unusual fabrics. The love of texture lead her to the art of weaving. Her studio soon became filled with different types of looms: Frame, Floor, and even a large Tapestry loom....Then she began spinning her own yarn to get that uniquely individual fiber. Now Sherrie loves to experiment in the mediums of acrylic and wax (encaustics). Her paintings emit creativity and texture. She is proud when her work says "reach out and touch me".
